Kai Grehn
Kai Grehn was born in Grevesmühlen in 1969 and grew up in East Berlin. After working as a postman, editorial assistant, assistant director and director at the Skoronel dance theatre, he studied theatre directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. Since then, he has worked as an author, director and translator, publishing prose, theatre plays, translations of authors such as William Blake, Tadeusz Borowski, William S. Burroughs, Nick Cave, Emily Dickinson, Orson Welles, Walt Whitman and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and over 70 radio plays, for which he has received several national and international awards.
His bilingual radio plays have starred Jeanne Moreau, Tilda Swinton, Gary Farmer and Iggy Pop, among others.
Grehn has worked with alva noto, Bohren & Der Club of Gore, Anne Clark, CocoRosie, Matt Elliott, Nouvelle Vague, Käptn Peng, Lars Rudolph, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Schneider TM, Shaban, Tarwater, Tuxedomoon, Ulver, Song Yuzhe and others for the soundtracks of his radio play productions.
In 2016 he was the first ever recipient of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Literature Prize.
